With our hospital services under constant pressure, the introduction of a new bulk billed Urgent Care centre in the Morningside/Cannon Hill area. Building a new Urgent Care Centre within the Bulimba Electorate. With the nearest Urgent Care Centre being either at the Princess Alexandra Hospital or in Kedron one is urgently required on the South Side of Brisbane. By building one fully equipped with X-ray/medical imaging capabilities as well as testing facilities it makes it a one stop for all medical concerns which don't require a hospital visit. This frees up Emergency departments for emergencies whilst also allowing people to access the health care they require in a timely manner. The introduction of more Low Acuity Response Unit Ambulances and the ability to redirect non urgent cases to Urgent Care or other health care services instead of Emergency Departments to limit the presentation of non-emergency cases creating further congestion on already strained emergency departments.
Reproductive Health - I'm against removing rights of people to decide what to do with their bodies. If someone wants or needs an abortion, they should have the right and ability to have that choice, as well as access to it.
Introduction of a Police Reserves: A police reserves would be similar to the Army Reserves. Called upon in a time of need. Given the Queensland Police Service are currently struggling to fill shifts, full time police will be available to take extra shifts whilst the reserves will take on non-critical operational maters i.e. speed camera monitoring and traffic control/roadwork management are just two examples of tasks that could be completed by a police reservist. They will also be available to assist fill shifts that full time police are unable to fill, should the situation arise. They will also be called upon in times of crisis i.e. natural disaster to assist the community. All Police Reserves will need to undertake all police academy training and all other training requirements as full time police officers to ensure the standard of policing does not change.
This policy strongly links in with Matthew's crime policy - by reducing the number of operational police completing non urgent task such speed camera monitoring and traffic control, these police are able to be deployed to urgent cases.
The local community have been reporting for a while that they have seen an increase in youth crime. Research is showing that the majority of youth crime is committed by a small minority of repeat offenders. It is clear the system is not working. It is imperative that the cycle of repeated crime is broken through rehabilitation the offenders. This will be through giving them the option of either Juvenile Detention or they go to undertake rehabilitation through work in industries where there are skill shortages. The offender will be given the opportunity to rehabilitate, learn in-demand skills and start contributing positively to the community. This will only be available for certain crimes, whilst the more serious crimes are continued to be punished as the judicial system sees fit.
Children are a big expense - from clothing and feeding them, to keeping them entertained and getting them into sports. One of the biggest expenses is feeding them. Due to the cost of living crisis, the number of children going to school without food is increasing. Not only is this detrimental to their mental health, it negatively impacts their ability to focus on studies. By funding schools to provide breakfast, morning/afternoon tea and lunch it allows the students to focus on their studies, and it removes that extra stress from parents.
Another large expense particularly in the first few years is childcare. Childcare is also extremely important for children's development. Many children are missing out on social development due to costs. Most families cant make the economics work for the primary care giver returning to work and putting the child into care. I want to remove the problem faced by families by offering rebates to cover the costs of childcare.
Currently teachers are paying for teaching supplies to ensure they have what they need to teach i.e. whiteboard markers, texters, etc. Giving teachers an additional bonus of up to $3000 a year to ensure they can purchase the supplies they require is the minimum the government can do to ensure teachers can carry out one of the most important jobs in our community, and promote teacher retention in all schools.
The Labor Government have implemented a extremely positive policy with the 50 cent public transport fares. Ideally this will continue, and become a permanent policy.
Another Cost of Living Policy is to bring Public Assets back under Public control. The key example is toll roads. Bringing them back under public control allows for tolls to either be greatly reduced or removed easing the cost of transporting goods and using vehicles to get around.
Knowing how to swim is a key life skill that all kids should have by the time they are five. With the cost of living, fewer and fewer kids are able to learn these critical life skills due to the cost, which will have a detrimental affect on the community as those kids grow. The government needs to step in and assist to ensure no child misses out on learning such a valuable skill.
With the increased take up of Roof Top Solar there is a glut of power during the daylight hours. On clear, mild days when Roof Top Solar is at its most efficient the power grid nears it's capacity. To assist alleviate the pressure on the grid, installation of community batteries for each street block will assist in lowering power prices whilst also reducing the reliance on fossil fuel produced power. Currently Energex is undertaking a trial of community batteries mounted to power poles in Logan. I would look to expand the trial to also include the Bulimba Electorate.
Given the current housing crisis, creating a Rent-to-Buy policy for First-Home owners whereby banks allow a 5% deposit in conjunction with a 5 year rental history as proof of ability to pay off a mortgage.
The yearly road death toll continues to climb year on year post COVID.
In an attempt to reduce this, the introduction of mandatory license retesting every 10 years, or every 5 years with the incentive of reduced 5-yearly licensing renewal fees.
Having a baby is a joyous & stressful time. The first drive is a very nervous and daunting time. A correctly fitted baby seat is imperative at ensuring that should an accident occur, they are safe and secure. To assist in reducing some of the nerves and stress with taking a new baby home, the introduction of a free car seat specialist to each birthing hospital in Queensland to inspect and/or assist in installing the baby seat, and will also go through how the baby is to be securely strapped in.
Its clear neither of the big two parties has any concrete plans or sustainable solutions to the required infrastructure that is necessary to host the 2032 Olympics. Redeveloping the Gabba, redeveloping the State Hockey Centre at Colmslie, and upgrading the Sleeman Sports Centre at Chandler are just three of the major developments that form the Olympics policy.
Construct a Green Bridge from Bulimba to Newstead to all easy access for the community to activity access to Newstead, river boardwalk to New Farm park and to open up active transportation options to the City.
Reinstate the Norman Park Ferry and upgrade the terminal to be serviceable via CityCat to open up the access of another mode of public transport for the Norman Park community.
Construct a new CityCat terminal along the Colmslie Beach or Colmslie Reserve to increase the availability and accessibility of another mode of public transportation to the suburbs of Cannon Hill, Morningside, & Murarrie suburbs.
With the increased take up of Roof Top Solar power, companies are decreasing how much they pay to customers for the power that is fed into the grid whilst the amount that they charge for power is constantly increasing. With a roof top solar system costing at least $8000 for a basic system, there still needs to be an incentive to return any excess power produced back to the grid. It has been seen that most companies are now offering a few cents per kilo-watt hour sent back to the grid. With how much power companies are charging per kilo-watt hour there is no reason for the feed in tariff to be so low. An increase to a minimum 12.5 cents per kilo-watt hour tied to any price increases will ensure that customers are adequately compensated for the power which the power companies then on sell to others at a substantially increased price.
Given the 4 major schools servicing the area, introducing a restriction for trucks along Lytton Road east of the Gateway Motorway, Junction Road & Wynnum Road to the hours of 8am-3pm Monday-Saturday, and no truck movements on Sundays. Also implementing a reduction in truck size along Lytton Road, Junction Road & Wynnum Road from a B-Double (length of 25m) to a maximum length of 19m (semi trailer).
This restriction would reduce the risk of school students and truck interactions.
This restriction would also aim to reduce air pollution, which has shown to have links to respiratory conditions such as asthma, in the surrounding residential neighbourhoods that are serviced by Lytton Road, Wynnum Road & Junction Road.
With the opening of the Second Runway at Brisbane Airport there has a substantial increase in air traffic and noise over the local community. Since its opening there has been a lot of talk from all levels of government with very little action. AirServices Australia are currently undertaking a review of the flight paths with community consultation available on their website. This isn't good enough, we need AirServices Australia to get out and door-knock the community to engage with the community and to experience first hand the impact to the community the change of the flight paths has had. It also ensures everyone's voices are heard and not just the few who have the time to comment on their website.
As I have always said from the start the whole reason why I am running for the election is to bring the community back to the heart of politics. If the community supports a curfew and flight caps or their preference is one over the over I will go in and fight for what the community wants.

Community engagement will be achieved through several different methods including doo-knocking, social media, emails, and community events.
